On GMB this morning £290 million given to Rwanda already and the only people gone whilst the scheme is implemented apparently are 3 politicians......given that the boats coming across the channel account for approx 5%of total immigration is this money well spent...or a cynical attempt to turn the next GE into a one policy campaign in an attempt to save the necks of this useless inept damaging government.

As I understand it, the figure will eventually rise to around £290 million, about half of that figure has been sent already.
The Rwanda policy is an obsession with the Tories. Massively expensive and providing no solution to the illegal economic migrant problem.
There is undoubtedly a massive problem with overall migration into the UK. The current situation is unsustainable.
We see the steps the Tories are making to stem the flow.
What I would like to know is what are Labour planning to do about the problem.

It is a problem but only 3rd on the list behind the cost of living crisis and the problems with the NHS but much publicity is given to the boats purely as a diversion appealing to the hard of thinking.
We see the steps the Tories are making to stem the flow.
No we don't...we see a desperate government trying to implement an illegal policy to send desperate people to a country governed by Africas Putin in a cynical attempt to rescue votes from people who believe that people coming to the UK are a bigger threat than the men from Eton who have engineered record energy costs record hospital waiting lists and a cost of living crisis unseen for decades.
What I would like to know is what are Labour planning to do about the problem.
What i want to know is what are they going to do about the problems i have mentioned.

Overall migration of around 670,000 per year according to the latest figures in itself will be adding to the problem of an already overstretched health service. It also puts stress on housing, education and adds to the cost of living as the demand for rented accommodation increases, so it’s a major problem. Notice I haven’t used the word boat.
When I said ‘we see the steps the Tories are taking to stem the flow’, again I was referring to overall migration in the changes they are making to qualifying criteria on earnings and accompanying family members amongst other things.
The ‘Rwanda Solution’ is no solution just a ridiculous distraction.
Migration into the UK just cannot be allowed to continue at its present unsustainable rate, it’s amazing that Labour while opposing every step the Tories make have offered no alternative policy.
Covid and the invasion of Ukraine created problems that any government would struggle with.
It surely is not too much to expect the Labour Party who will no doubt be forming a government within 12 months or so, to be coming up with some policies on the important issues but so far I see none.
We must not forget that this Tory government has been a disaster for much of the last 13 years but they were elected following a disastrous 13 years under a Labour government.
Unless Labour come up with some answers, the disastrous cycle will continue.

Seems to me that if the UK changed their benefits/health system the same as the Europeans there would not be the incentive to risk dangerous crossings to get to the UK. Remember the UK needs immigration as there are thousands of jobs migrants would do but UK people won't.

When you are put up in a three star hotel and given three meals a day plus pocket money, courtesy of the British taxpayer, why would you want to work.

Aparently many do but the government won't allow them to work.

Crazy or what?
